Herbal Powders – Foundation Recipe

1–2 minutes

read

Herbal powders are a simple and effective form of medicine. Powders make it easy to standardize a formula and regulate the dose by making capsules. They are convenient, easy to carry, and a great alternative to alcohol.

How to powder

All equipment, hands, surfaces, plant material, and containers must be kept completely dry.

A dedicated coffee grinder is an inexpensive method for small amounts; just make sure you have a separate grinder for coffee.

High-powered blender or food processor for larger amounts. For large or exceptionally hard/tough plant material, chop it into smaller pieces first to reduce wear and tear.

Mortar and pestle is the traditional method.

  • Type: Powder/Capsules
Equipment
  • Coffee grinder
  • High powered blender or food processor
  • Mortar & pestle

Storage: Air-tight containers, preferably glass, kept in a dark, cool area. All tools, plant material, hands, and containers must be kept completely dry. Powdered herbs in caps lose potency quickly (shelf life less than a year), so it is better to powder a little at a time.

How to use: Sprinkle on food, add to blender drinks, or stir into hot water. Mix into honey, no-bake recipes, granola, or dough. Make capsules or press into pills. Suppositories.
